Case Study 2: Bromley-by-Bow Centre

Bromley-by-Bow CentreThis pioneering voluntary organisation, led by the United Reformed Church and the local community, was established in 1984. The Centre has developed an innovative model to regenerate the area, based upon integration, excellence, and participation.

Their model has generated a large amount of interest from other organisations that believe that the Centre's experience can be useful for their own development.

Partnership working with the local communities, primary care teams and the public and private sectors, on the basis of mutual benefit has been the key to its success.

The Centre offers over a hundred activities each week. These are organised through interconnected projects broadly grouped around Enterprise, Education, Environment, Art and Health.

The centre accommodates the following:
  • Day nursery
  • IT room
  • Café
  • Health Centre
  • Church
  • Homework club
  • Enterprise hub (furniture design and manufacturing, public art, landscape design, catering)
  • Tour and seminar programme, which operates as a social business, generating income to ensure future sustainability of the Centre
