About This Site
The information on this site is provided in good faith as guidance and stimulus to those involved in the Church’s strategy for new housing areas. No responsibility can be accepted for information which is inaccurate, and professional advice specific to particular places should be sought.
The Planning Process
Government Department

If you want to get straight to the heart of the Government Department which provides information about planning and new housing areas, go to www.communities.gov.uk.

This is the official website of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Here you will navigate to 'Housing' and find various leads, including links to:
  • Housing in England: A Strategic overview of housing policy
  • Responding to the demand for homes
  • etc

The site also points to significant agencies which you may wish to know about:
  1. The Housing Corporation which is: 'the national Government agency that funds new affordable housing and regulates housing associations in England'.
  2. English Partnerships which is: 'the national regeneration agency helping the Government support high quality sustainable growth in England'. This particular website is most helpful in providing active maps of where the major new housing developments are taking place in the various Regions where English Partnerships are involved. Be aware that there are other developments taking place as well as those shown here, but it is well worth looking at.
  3. CABE which is: the Government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space. This is a more specialist site for those with that particular interest. Their Housing Audit is worth looking at.

Please note, as of the Press Release of 17/1/2007 from English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation and English Partnerships will come together in the creation of 'Communities England'.

The Department of Communities and Local Government website search facility on www.communities.org.uk is useful for specific requests for information and advice. We shall make reference to some of these later on, but you might like to search this anyway. This search facility acts like an online catalogue of the Department for Communities and Local Government for publications and documents which might be helpful.
